Trilogy Saddles Ambassador

The husband and wife team of Scott and Susanne Hassler, who make up Hassler Dressage, are dedicated professionals motivated by their love and passion of dressage and the breeding of sport horses. Although their names are strongly associated with their dressage success, both Scott and Suzanne have versatile backgrounds that have contributed to making them the well rounded and well respected professional they are today. With over 20 years of experience in training, as well as national and international FEI competition, the Hasslers are truly devoted to the ongoing development of dressage training in the United States.

“We are excited to develop horses and riders to perform at their best -- from young horses to Grand Prix -- and to breed top quality horses for today’s sports,” said the Hasslers, whose Hassler Dressage is located at Riveredge in Chesapeake City, Maryland. “Our friend and partner Leslie Malone has truly created a masterpiece in this new training facility. The space is so inspired and deeply honors horses and all we do with them. Leslie's loving attention to detail in the facility has created a work of art; much like our devoted focus to detail in the training and care of the horses draws out their innate beauties. I think we all ride better simply by being surrounded by such inspiration. We are thrilled and excited by the opportunity to bring educational venues and our services to the equestrian community in such an inspired setting!”

Scott has a very versatile background. While today his name is associated with the upper echelon of US dressage, Scott has been active in a variety of equine disciplines. He grew up eventing and competing open show jumpers through the Intermediate and the mini-Prix levels. As a young teenager, he rode for the early Holsteiner organization in the US, preparing horses for auction at the Holsteiner headquarters in Virginia. Scott won numerous Junior and Young Rider titles, one year winning a national title with the USDF and the US Eventing Association on the same horse. Scott also had the experience of competing internationally as a member of a four-in-hand driving team, competing both in Donaueschingen, Germany and Appledoorn, Netherlands!

Since 1999, Scott has been an active member of the USEF Dressage Committee, the USEF Breeding Committee, and has chaired the USDF Sporthorse Committee since 2001. His leadership has helped bring about such critical developments as the sport/breeding related record-keeping system now active in the USDF and USEF. As the sole representative for the sport of dressage, Scott now serves on the USEF Strategic Planning Committee, assisting in the long-term planning for the country's national horse sport organization.

While Susanne definitely bears the dressage gene, she too has a diverse equestrian foundation. Her earliest inspiration for the sport came while watching her grandmother compete for Sweden in World Cup and World Championship qualifying events, and her mother, Anita Owen, is an FEI-C judge. Growing up in Colorado, where she participated in Pony Club and was active in competitive trail riding, Susanne won year-end national awards in her age division; she crossed the Continental Divide many times on horseback during her early education as a horsewoman. Not to many other dressage riders can make that claim!

“Scott and Susanne bring overall education to our Trilogy team,” said Debbie Witty, President of Trilogy Dressage Saddles. “When you are with them you realize they are really interested in helping and supporting their students. They are also always willing to go the extra mile on how to approach and correct their riding. Scott and Susanne have developed some amazing programs and are very focused on the Young Riders program. Their dedication will ensure that we have continuity in the United States with great riders.”

The Hasslers are quick to praise Debbie on her saddles and believe whole-heartedly that Trilogy Saddles have helped increase their success as dressage riders. “The impeccable balance the Trilogy Saddles provides is just the starting point. As a rider, I felt an immediate difference in the access I had to better balancing my horses because the saddle allows such terrific stability,” Susanne said. “Debbie is a perfectionist and understands the horse's anatomy and various conformational challenges perfectly. The combination of Debbie's outstanding fittings and the way the saddle fits provide the perfect leg position makes all the difference in the world!”

Scott is quick to agree with Susanne that the Trilogy Saddles help all riders stay well balanced. “Not only are the saddles well built and nice looking, but they allow the horse to move beautifully through its body while supporting the rider and helping them to stay well balanced,” he said.

The Hasslers are not only enthusiastic about Trilogy Saddles, but their move to Riveredge as well. “Everything about our move to Riveredge is exciting. We have great plans to be of service to the community with a wonderful line up of outstanding clinicians, like Steffen Peters, Debbie MacDonald and so many others,” Susanne said. And there is little doubt that Trilogy saddles and Debbie Witty are a good match for the Hasslers future plans.
