Ambassadors, Meet Our Trilogy Riders

Shannon Peters started riding at age 11, spending all of her time riding a variety of types and breeds of horses. When she went to college in Boulder, Colorado, she was introduced to dressage and by the time she turned 20 she had developed a passion for the sport. “I love the relationship built between horse and rider,” Shannon said.

Shannon is now part of a dynamic dressage husband-wife team, as she is married to Olympic and World Cup Champion Steffen Peters. Shannon said working with her husband has turned out to be a blessing, and together they operate a 65-horse facility in San Diego, California called Arroyo Del Mar, located on 23 beautiful and sunny California acres.

Deborah Witty, President of Trilogy Saddles, is thrilled to have Shannon represent Trilogy. “I met Shannon for the first time when she helped me by getting on a client's horse so that I could make some adjustments in the horse's saddle. I had worked with this horse on many occasions, and he had always struggled with his longish, low back and high hips and the warm up had always been challenging for him,” Witty recalls. “Shannon started a series of exercises where the steady rhythm of his walk and the softening of the jaw and poll established the self-assurance, relaxation and willingness of this horse who in the past had not been an enthusiastic partner.”

Witty said that experience has continued in her relationship with Shannon, who has been with Trilogy since the beginning. “Shannon creates a new depth of understanding and fairness in her four-legged and two-legged clients,” Witty said. “The work she does with them creates a sense of confidence that is not found in many horse and rider relationships.”

Shannon’s sincerity and commitment is reflected in everything she does, including being Reserve National Champion in 2005 at Gladstone in the Intermediare division riding her partner Luxor. Shannon and Luxor continued their winning ways the following year, winning the Intermediare I Horse of the Year for the USDF. In 2008, Shannon was Reserve National Champion in the 6-year-old Markel Young Horse Championships in Kentucky riding Weltino's Magic.

While Witty is enthusiastic about Shannon, the dressage rider is just as quick to praise Witty’s Trilogy saddles. “I ride in the Verago saddle, which is the best saddle I have ever ridden in!” Shannon said. “The balance, flap position and twist put you in the best possible position.”

While Shannon stays busy with her husband, barn and clients, her dedication is unwavering and she hopes to represent her country someday. “I would love to be the first husband and wife dressage couple to do so,” Shannon said. “Steffen and I work so well together as a team, and we have a tremendous support team behind us. We feel very blessed to be able to do this sport together!”
