After graduating from the University of MN with a degree in merchandising, she owned and operated a saddle shop in the Minneapolis area for 18 years, then sold it to have time to ride. Since selling the shop she's been doing saddle fitting consultations, riding dressage horses at the FEI level, and foxhunting. In addition she serves on numerous boards including Partners and the MN Equine Research Foundation, both at the University of MN Veterinary Hospital, is on the board of the Long Lake Hounds, has been president and many times board member of Central States Dressage and Eventing Association, and was a Regional Director of the United States Dressage Federation for 6 years.
Out of necessity, Jeanne learned as much as she could about saddle fitting. With a never ending series of unusual horses of her own, and very few people who knew enough about saddle fitting to help, it was a challenge to find appropriate saddles which would keep the horses comfortable, sound, and able to perform well. She's now been doing saddle fitting consultations for 10 years, has been flocking saddles for 4 years, and has become a field representative for Performance Saddlery, the US distributor of Albion saddles.
As a saddle fitter, Jeanne's main focus is on educating clients to recognize the importance of a properly fitting saddle and how to recognize problems. If we expect our horses to be athletes we need to provide them with the proper equipment to perform their best. As responsible horse owners we owe it to them to keep them comfortable and happy.
